Save Money on Your Electricity Bill
Have you noticed how sometimes your electric meter is spinning way faster than that of your neighbour and although you’re frustrated, there’s nothing seemingly that you can do about it? Well, I say seemingly because now you can!
Here are 5 tips that will help you save on your electricity bill and make your spinning meter wheel slow down considerably.
- Start buying the energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL). Theydo cost more to buy than the regular bulb, but in the long run, you will be the winner because the saving is much more than the original cost of the bulb. Go ahead and change all the bulbs, in the kitchen, in your bathroom, in your bedroom, and even on your veranda (or balcony) if you have one.
- Have you ever seen those light dimming switches, that you can turn the button to dim the light to as much as you need? If you have a tv in your bedroom, it’s true, you do need some background light (watching tv in total darkness is not good for the eyes), but if you switch on the light, not only you get annoyed at the strength of the light, but you also pay more. Instead, swtich on the light and dim it to have a light, shady ‘background light’ that is pleasing to the eyes and your wallet.
- When you do the washes or the laundry, don’t run half loads in the washer or dishwasher unless it’s absolutely necessary , and learn to air dry your clothes. You will not only get the benefit of the saved electricity, but also you will get to enjoy the smooth touch of the crisp, non-faltered clothes.
- If you’re using old appliances (fridge, washing machine, heater, etc), replace them with new ones. The old appliances consume way more than the new, and in a few years, the new appliances will have paid for themselves as well as started to save you money!
- Unplug your appliances when you’re away for more than a few hours from home (when you’re on holidays, for example, or away for the weekend). Anything that’s plugged in will drain some electricity juine, even when it’s turned off. When you have many things plugged (fridge, washing machine, the coffee maker, your tv and dvd player, your computer, it does add up. And every bit helps to save a coin!
